Shots for Concept

Winter break came and went. It was nice to go back to Reelwork and see friends and family. I'm surprised at how excited I was about driving again. It'd a good thing I'm back in Sarasota though. I took too many shopping trips with my car.

Anyway, this semester is starting off pretty busy and I don't think it'll stop until May. At some point I'll post some pics of the maquette I had to made over the break. For now here's some shot designs. For concept design I'm using the story of Cupid and Psyche for a series of studies in composition, light, color, and many other things I'm sure. Here's a few following the rule of thirds.

SASKIA OZOLS

Here's a quick find. I like the looseness in her paintings very much. The horse painting captured the movement so well. For more info on her and her work go to http://www.sorengallery.com/ozols.html. She might have her own site, but this is where I found her stuff.

A Post of Figure Drawings

Here are a few pages from my 30-page intermediate figure final portfolio. Things are finally winding down. Two more animations, an animatic, an art history final, then it's off to Michigan and Minnesota! Before we leave this semester the senior CAs are showing us their theses which are about half done. Dreamworks is also giving another lecture next week. So far Ringling has had demos and talks from Dreamworks, Activition, Reel FX, and Massive Black. Can't wait until next semester when the actual recruiting starts. Should be (even more) exciting!

Endless sleep, good food, and drawing in a week, Woo hoo!

Ps: Special thanks to Robert, without whom I wouldn't have even have thought about using Actions in photoshop on these pages.

Sit/Stand Character

WOOOO! A week and a half left to go!
I can't wait for winter break! There are many things I'm excited for such as my dad's delicious Chinese food, going out with friends, sleep, improve my drawing/painting skills, my dad's delicious Chinese food, sleep, etc. The thing I'm not looking forward to though, is the Minnesotan winter. I've gotten so used to Florida that 75 degrees seem a little chilly (honestly! It doesn't feel 75!) so I can imagine how painful 30 degrees will be. And lets not mention wind chills, arrgggh!

Meanwhile there's plenty of project to be done. Here's some pre-pro stuff for my next semester's sit/stand project. We basically have to animate a character sitting down with one emotion and getting up with another emotion. My story is about a guy expecting a baby. He sits down exhausted from the anxiety then storms off excitedly when he hears his baby's first cry.

Birds and Guests

Thought it's time for another post so here are some sketches from the jungle garden and a couple of robots/spacemen.

Last night was the first night in many weeks when I felt like I am caught up with everything and can do some drawings not for class. But surprise surprise, today I realized that I should have spent that time on revising our animatic. Oh well, we all need some personal drawing time to get out of the lab once in a while.

Ralphie the Fox

Yay done with my model sheet for Traditional. As you can see, this fox is very "special." It was my first time drawing completely with the tablet. It took quite a while to get use to but it worked out alright. At this point I don't know which is faster, pencil or stylus.

Now that's do that again for Concept plus 25 more silhouettes. Yay!

RIGS GONE MAD!!!

With little knowledge of the rigging process, my Primitive Theater is coming along...slowly. I do enjoy entertaining myself by playing with the models though, you sure can't do this with 2D animation.

More Animals

Alright, pointy cow it is. Here's the pig as well. I still need to figure out how to add nostrils, add tails. rig them...I feel so behind in 3D!
